ROI Institute Announces 2023 Award Winners

Birmingham, Alabamaโ€”April 16, 2024. ROI Institute is excited to announce the 2023 ROI Institute Awards recipients.ย  This program recognizes the outstanding application of, and support for, the ROI Methodologyยฎ and honors individuals and organizations for exceptional work in measurement, evaluation, and analytics.

“We are excited to acknowledge the excellent work of our practitioners, clients, and partners from all over the world,” said Dr. Patti P. Phillips, CEO of ROI Institute. “We’re pleased that our global ROI network has demonstrated remarkable dedication in showcasing the value of their work, the impact of their programs on their organizations, and the benefits delivered to their communities despite facing today’s challenges. It’s an honor to support their endeavors.”

Bestย Impact/ROIย Study

Hundreds of studies are conducted each year. This award recognizes the study that best describes current use and application of the ROI Methodology. This award is not necessarily for the study that shows the highest ROIโ€“the winning entry could be a negative ROI.

Best Impact/ROI Study in Government

Abdullah Obiedat, Researcher and Master Trainer, Institute of Public Administration, The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

Study Title: Measuring the Impact and ROI of the Supervisory Skills Development Training Program

Abdullah’s award-winning study, showcasing ROI’s use in the public sector, assessed the impact of the supervisory skills training program within the Institute of Public Administration, identified areas of development, and served as evidence for investing in such training. In addition to tangible impact and ROI, the study highlighted numerous intangible benefits, including knowledge transformation, improved work procedures, increased team member satisfaction, enhanced customer satisfaction, and the development of new ideas. Adullahโ€™s study caps nearly eight years of dedication with his ROI efforts at the Institute of Public Administration in Jordan. We applaud his diligence and commitment to showing the value of many programs and projects.

Best Impact/ROI Study in Business

Nicole DiStefano, Associate Director Business Intelligence, Verizon, United States

Study Title: Elevate Sales

Nicole and the team at Verizon completed an impressive number of detailed impact and ROI studies for a variety of Verizon programs. We were particularly impressed that Nicoleโ€™s analysis was approved by the finance team at Verizon. Nicole and her team have clearly implemented the ROI Methodology not only to demonstrate the value of their programs but also to improve their programs so they will deliver even greater value. We applaud Nicole for her efforts and that of her team in making this endeavor so successful.

Bestย ROI Forecast

This award recognizes individuals who have conducted ROI forecasts prior to implementing a project, program, or initiative. This is an important trend.

Jorge Cruz, Sr. Director Business Value; Gail Gilbreth McWhorter, Sales Enablement Manager; and Erin Smith, Solutions Architect, Alvaria, United States

Alvaria has created a credible, conservative, and consistent ROI forecasting process that is used to convince clients to pursue their workforce engagement systems. We have found this to be a very credible process following the conservative standards of the ROI Methodology.

Best Practice Implementation

This award recognizes individuals or organizations for the results achieved through successful, enterprise-wide implementation of the ROI Methodology. Implementation strategies must describe successful practices used across all phases of implementation, including evaluation planning, data collection, data analysis, and communicating results.

Laureen Rwatirera, Head of Organizational Development, ASML Academy, The Netherlands

ASML Academy embraces the ROI Methodology as the standard for demonstrating the impact of learning initiatives and has made remarkable progress with its ROI Certification and ROI Boot Camp initiatives. In 2023, ASML Academy awarded numerous Certified ROI Professional designations as part of its effort to promote the ROI process, with more certifications expected in the future. We generously applaud their efforts.

Most Innovative Approach to ROI

This award is given to the individual or organization that shows the most creativity in the implementation of, and support for, the ROI Methodology. Innovation can occur in data collection, analysis, or reporting, or it can involve creativity in getting others involved, using data, and building capability.

Customs Affairs Kingdom of Bahrain

Study Title: Bahrain Customs Affairs ROI Study

Human resources are vital for organizational success and growth, especially in fields like customs, where a strong knowledge base is essential. In 2023, Customs Affairs Kingdom of Bahrain conducted an impact study on a foundation training program, aiming to align with strategic goals, build ROI measurement capabilities, ensure alignment with training program design, achieve KPIs, and monitor program enhancements. We were particularly impressed with the reporting of this case studyโ€™s results as it provided an innovative way to leverage the study’s outcomes with an all-management team meeting chaired by the president of customs, His Excellency Ahmed Bin Hamad Al Khalifa. A part of the presentation was from the president who acknowledged the results and encouraged managers to support Customs Training Institute programs.

Writing an article for publication is an effective way to educate others and support the ROI Methodology.ย  This award recognizes the article that best informs others about how to use and apply the ROI process.

This award recognizes individuals who work across country borders to promote the implementation of ROI. This can include consulting work, conference presentations, workshops, or all three areas.

Raed A. Khanfar, CEO, Global Center for Training & Consultations, Jordan

In 2023, Raed worked tirelessly across international borders, helping various audiences learn the importance of ROI and build capability in applying the ROI Methodology process. We recognize and applaud Raed’s efforts in Jordan, Antalya, Tรผrkiye; Dubai, UAE; and Jeddah, Saudia Arabia.

ROIย Practitionerย ofย theย Year

This award recognizes the individual whose advocacy of the ROI Methodology has broadly influenced audiences and organizations on both an internal and external level. This individual is one who has demonstrated, through professional practice, sustained integrity to the processโ€“often in the face of organizational barriersโ€“the leadership ability to create, support, and champion opportunities for creating a results-based culture.

David R. Maddock, Ed.D., Research and Evaluation Specialist, The School District of Osceola County, United States

Dave stands out as a truly exceptional leader in the ROI and research-based evaluation fields. David is most deserving of this award because of his selfless and kind support and coaching of other federal program administrators and evaluators, who are also applying the ROI Methodology to their respective studies of programs. David has conducted over a dozen ROI studies, teaches ROI to others, and coaches individuals on ROI. We applaud his amazing work with this award.

This award recognizes an outstanding service provider who delivers quality services, training, or other initiatives that impact the world.

ECTACโ€”East Cost Technical Assistance Center, United States

ECTAC, whose membership includes 55 school districts across the state of Florida, supports many federal program administrators in multiple school districts in applying the ROI Methodology to determine the impact and ROI of a variety of programs being funded with Federal grant dollars. They have initiated three ROI cohort sessions to develop ROI capability. Their numerous studies have served as excellent examples and guides of how best to apply the ROI Methodology and demonstrate the value add and efficiency of the ROI Methodology.

Social Impact

This award recognizes an outstanding person, project, or initiative that is making a social impact in the world.

Renรฉe Oprel, Policy Advisor Talent & Development, Technical University Delft, The Netherlands

Study title: ROI Studyโ€”Stichting JIJ

We are particularly pleased to present this award to Renรฉe, and we applaud the efforts of the Stichting JIJ program to drive social change and have an amazing impact within the community. Stichting JIJ is a volunteer organization that has been providing peer support from experience since 2010 to anyone aged 12 and older who either has or is dealing with an eating problem or eating disorder, either personally or in their environment. Renรฉe did a wonderful job in tackling the challenge of comparing the benefits of supporting someone with an eating problem or disorder against the (societal) costs if someone chooses not to seek guidance.

Best ROI Certification Host

Most in-person ROI Certification sessions are hosted by an organization using their on-site facilities. A host leverages the opportunity to build capability among their team while also inviting individuals from outside organizations to learn ROI skills. This award recognizes the best host who makes participants feel welcome, creates a conducive learning environment, and provides an excellent experience throughout the week.

DPR Ever Forward Team, DPR Construction, United States

In December 2023, the DPR Ever Forward Team hosted an ROI certification session in Austin, TX, where they made sure the participants felt welcomed at all times. The DPR team created a classroom environment that was conducive to learning, provided support to the participants whenever needed, and actively led the session discussions. The team also furnished excellent meals and refreshments, hosted a dinner for the participants, , offered afternoon cocktails to the participants, and even organized a group tour of their facilities. Overall, the DPR team was professional in every dimension and set an amazing example for other ROI Certification hosts.
