ROI Institute 2019 Year in Review

Birmingham, Alabamaโ€”January 3, 2020. ROI Institute reports that 2019 was another outstanding year for products, services, research, application, and recognition.

ROI Certification

ROI Certification, the mainstream process for developing ROI capability, continued to flourish with approximately 50 certification sessions held either publicly or internally in organizations around the globe. Under the leadership of Dr. Tim Brock, director of consulting services, delivery methods of offering ROI Certification were expanded to include more options, including blended learning and self-study. A coaching option, offered as a way to increase the success of participants to complete their ROI Certification projects, continued to gain traction with participants. Additionally, ROI Certification has expanded from the routine applications of HR, learning, technology, quality, marketing, healthcare, and innovation to now include chaplaincy, ombudsman, and super users. This represents three new specialized certification offerings.

Internal Workshops

Under the leadership of Sherri Queen, general manager, we developed several new internal workshops during 2019, bringing the total to almost 40 workshops. These workshops help organizations to build critical capability in needs assessment, measurement, alignment, evaluation, and analytics. They are offered internally or through other learning provider organizations such as the Association for Talent Development.

ย ROI Institute Academy

Andy Vance, business development manager, launched the ROI Institute Academy in 2019 as a new way for individuals to develop skills in the ROI Methodology. Using an online platform, individuals have the opportunity to develop different levels of capability. ROI Institute Academy Membership Level 0, Level 1, and Level 2 were launched with much success.

Books

Two new books were released in 2019. The first book was Value for Money: How to Show the Value for Money for All Types of Projects and Programs in Governments, Non-Governmental Organizations, Nonprofits, and Businesses published by Wiley. This comprehensive, 500-page book will become the primary text for ROI Certifications. The second book launched in 2019 was ROI Basics, Second Edition published by ATD. An update to an already successful book, ROI Basics is a basic primer for the ROI Methodology with an emphasis on talent development.

At the present time, ROI Institute has its largest backlog of publishing projects, thanks to Hope Nicholas, director of publications. Early book releases planned for 2020 include: Proving the Value of Soft Skills (ATD), Measuring the ROI of Marketing (McGraw-Hill), Delivering the Value in Government (IPMA-HR), and Return on Investment in Training and Performance Improvement, Third Edition (Routledge).

Consulting

With the support of Sherri Queen, ROI Institute increased its consulting business to emphasize a variety of consulting services. Services included not only conducting impact and ROI studies, but also providing strategic assistance, specialized analysis, analytics, needs assessments, and ROI forecasting. Kylie McLeod, director of research and communications, served as project manager of several important projects, including those beyond classic measurement and analysis. Kylie brought in two major branding studies that allowed the organization to design their marketing and branding strategies for results.

ROI Footprint

Under the leadership of Melissa Brown, director of partnerships, ROI Institute continues to operate around the globe through international partners, representing 70 countries. Partners mirror the services provided in the USA. During 2019, three new countries (Pakistan, Guatemala, and Costa Rica) entered into the developmental stage for establishing partnerships in 2020. Four new countries in Africa, two new countries in Europe, one country in South America, and one country in Asia are in early discussions for partnerships. New partners were also added in other countries.

Klaas Toes, from the Netherlands and CEO of ROI Institute-Europe, has taken on the role of coordinating partnership efforts in Europe. Nader Bechini from Saudi Arabia has taken on the role of coordinating partnership efforts in the Middle East through ROI Institute-Middle East.

ย Branding

Ann Akins, president and CFO, has increased ROI Instituteโ€™s branding to protect four key trademarks: ROI Instituteยฎ, ROI Methodologyยฎ, Certified ROI Professionalยฎ, and ROI Certificationยฎ. These trademarks are now protected in 26 countries around the world. Other trademarks, copyrights, and intellectual property efforts are underway.

ROI Learning Center

ROI Institute, in collaboration with Training Magazine Network, launched the new ROI Learning Center in December 2019. The online learning center will guide visitors through each step of the ROI Methodology, preparing them to use the exclusive ROI Calculator to provide credible results. The learning center provides dozens of resources and is free to anyone who visits the special website designed to take the mystery out of ROI. Hope Nicholas served as project leader and Andy Vance provided technical support to this extensive project.

Research

Under Kylie McLeodโ€™s direction, ROI Instituteโ€™s research efforts continued to thrive in 2019 with a variety of different research projects. Among those projects was a major benchmarking study of ROI use, showing best practices in 20 different areas of ROI implementation.
