ROI Institute Announces 2022 Award Winners

Birmingham, Alabamaโ€”April 18, 2023. The ROI Institute Awards Selection Committee is excited to announce the recipients of the 2022 ROI Institute Awards. The ROI Institute Awards Program recognizes the outstanding application of, and support for, the ROI Methodologyยฎ and honors individuals and organizations for exceptional work in measurement, evaluation, and analytics.

โ€œThis yearโ€™s nominations were once again impressive,โ€ said Dr. Patti P. Phillips, CEO of ROI Institute. โ€œIt is evident through these submissions and nominations that organizations continue to see the need for ROI and are successfully implementing it globally. We appreciate these winnersโ€™ dedication to measurement and evaluation.โ€

There were numerous submissions of outstanding work, which made choosing a single winner in each category challenging, so there are multiple winners in some.

โ€œThese recipients represent our global network of more than 10,000 users of the ROI Methodology,โ€ said Dr. Jack J. Phillips, chairman of ROI Institute. โ€œEven faced with economic, political, and social challenges, these individuals worked diligently to show the value of their work, the impact their programs have in their organization, and the benefits delivered to the organization and community. We are proud to support these efforts.โ€

โ€œROI continues to be a needed skill set, and worthy investment for many organizations, as evidenced in the variety of submissions and nominations this year,โ€ explained Ann Akins, president of ROI Institute. โ€œWe always look forward to celebrating the great work of our practitioners, clients, and partners worldwide.โ€

2022 Award Winners

Bestย Impact/ROIย Study

Hundreds of studies are conducted each year. This award recognizes the study that best describes current use and application of the ROI Methodology. This award is not necessarily for the study that shows the highest ROIโ€“the winning entry could be a negative ROI.

Best Impact/ROI Study in Government

Ali Ahmed Ali Ameeni, MSc., Director, MAAN Program, Ministry of Interior, Kingdom of Bahrain
Saleh Yousif Abdulla Al-Ansari, Ph.D., Partner, Vigilance Consulting WLL, Kingdom of Bahrain
Study Title: An Impact Study of the Coexistence Training Program in the Ministry of Interior, Kingdom of Bahrain

This study tackles a critical issue of co-existence in schools to help school students to become better citizens and reduce their tendency toward extremism and violence and create a safe education environment in their schools. This study comes from the MAAN Program within the Ministry of Interior in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The program reduced incidences of intolerance and extremism. This study underscores ROI’s use in the public sector to try to ultimately prevent incidences of violence and crimes.

Best Impact/ROI Study in Business
David Mason, Global Learning Experience Assessment & Analysis, Commercial Training COE, Medtronic, United States
Study Title: Gender Diversity and the Impact of Creating a More Direct Career Path for Female Emerging Leaders Through Learning

David Mason at Medtronic tackled the important issue of showing the ROI for diversity. Although DE&I enjoys great support among executives, it is sometimes helpful to show that it’s the right thing to do and a good investment for the organization. We appreciate the effort of this team to show the value of diversity.

Best Impact/ROI Study in a Developing Country
Baboni Ogotseng, Amigear Ventures, Botswana
Study Title: Supervisory Development Program

ROI is alive and well in developing countries, and Baboni Ogotseng demonstrates how a supervisory development program made a difference at Richmark Farms, a chicken production business in Botswana.

Bestย ROI Forecast

This award recognizes individuals who have conducted ROI forecasts prior to implementing a project, program, or initiative. This is an important trend.

ย

Alan Todd, Founder and Vice President, Udemy Leadership Academy, United States
Study Title: Effective Leadership in a Hybrid World of Work, The Conference Board Report

There are different time frames when you can conduct a forecast. You can have a preprogram forecast or forecast after reaction at level 1, and sometimes you can forecast from learning data at level 2. We are now seeing more application forecasting at level 3 from the use of skills or competencies detailed in this study. Essentially, this involves placing a monetary value on the use of skills, instead of tracking the impact and converting that to money. It’s a process based on utility analysis. We applaud the efforts of Udemy, assisted by The Conference Board, in showing the value of effective leadership in a hybrid world of work.

Bestย Research

This award recognizes individuals who have conducted important research about the use of ROI and the effectiveness of the ROI Methodology.

Dr. Gamal Eldin Elkhazindar, President, Management Integrated Solutions, Dubai – UAE
Book Title: Measuring ROI In Human Capital

Dr. Gamal Elkhazindar continues to expand on the use of ROI in the human resources area with the publication of a new book, Measuring ROI in Human Capital, published in Arabic for use in Middle East and other Arabic speaking countries. We applaud this effort that tracks how ROI is making a difference in human resources.

Bestย Publishedย Caseย Study

Case studies are important for teaching lessons learned and best practices about the success (or lack of success) with a particular project. This award recognizes the case study that best educates and supports professionals who are implementing the ROI Methodology. The case study has been published or accepted for publication.

Leslie Schall, Director of Employee Engagement, Experience and Purpose, Michelin North America, Inc.
Shannon K. Schultz, Principal, Schultz Consulting Group LLC.
Study Title: Leading from Purpose

This case study details an important program for Michelin North America, focusing on leading from its purpose. It also underscores the critical connection between a soft skills program and engagement in a very credible way. The goal was to leverage the leadership culture and the companyโ€™s clear strengths in engineering and operational excellence to help managers lead from purpose. The Purpose Program became the multiyear initiative to inspire purpose in all employees.

Best Practice Implementation

This award recognizes individuals or organizations for the results achieved through successful, enterprise-wide implementation of the ROI Methodology. Implementation strategies must describe successful practices used across all phases of implementation, including evaluation planning, data collection, data analysis, and communicating results.

Michael P. Wright, Ed.D., VP Leadership Development FM Global Academy, FM Global, United States

FM Global has tackled ROI Implementation aggressively with internal certifications and many projects completed and more underway. They are implementing the ROI Methodology not only to demonstrate the value of their programs but also to improve their programs so they deliver even greater value. We applaud Michael for his efforts and that of his team in making this successful.

Most Innovative Approach to ROI

This award is given to the individual or organization that shows the most creativity in the implementation of, and support for, the ROI Methodology. Innovation can occur in data collection, analysis, or reporting, or it can involve creativity in getting others involved, using data, and building capability.

ย

Greentown China Holdings Limited and Sinotrac Consulting Co., Ltd., China
Study Title: Measuring ROI in a Social Media Marketing Program

We were particularly impressed with this case study that focuses on a ROI Study for a social media campaignโ€™s impact on sales for one of China’s leading privately held residential property developers. A social media campaignโ€™s impact and ROI are a mystery for some organizations. This study begins to unravel that mystery.

Bestย Publishedย ROIย Article

One of the most effective ways to educateย others and support the ROI Methodology is to write an article for publication. This award recognizes the article that best informs others about how to use and apply the ROI process.

Hormazd Mistry, Founder & CEO, Sarosh Consulting, ROI Institute India
Article Title: Seven Best ROI Practices to Remember When Measuring Training ROI

In this digital article, Hormazd Mistry, ROI Institute’s partner in India, did an excellent job educating his clients about ROI and its use.

Bestย Internationalย Implementation

This award recognizes individuals who work across country borders to promote the implementation of ROI. This can include consulting work, conference presentations, workshops, or all three areas.

Marcela Leon, Executive Director, Innovazzone, ROI Institute Partner, Peru

Recently, Marcela Leon, ROI Institute’s partner in Peru, has worked across borders, helping a variety of audiences with the ROI Methodology process. We recognize and applaud Marcela’s efforts.

ROIย Practitionerย ofย theย Year

This award recognizes the individual whose advocacy of the ROI Methodology has broadly influenced audiences and organizations on both an internal and external level. This individual is one who has demonstrated, through professional practice, sustained integrity to the processโ€“often in the face of organizational barriersโ€“the leadership ability to create, support, and champion opportunities for creating a results-based culture.

Nicole DiStefano, Sr. Manager, Business Intelligence, Global Learning and Development Verizon, United States

Verizon continues to do amazing work with ROI. This award recognizes another practitioner of the year, Nicole DiStefano, based on her efforts to coordinate, organize, drive, and influence the use of ROI in Verizon and beyond.

Best Supply Partner

This award recognizes an outstanding provider of services that are making a difference in the world. This supply partner has developed a case study to show the value of what they do.

Kathy Nolen, Enterprise Client Director, Insights, United States

We were particularly impressed with Insights’ eagerness to show the value of their preference-based evaluator, Insights Discovery. Headquartered in Scotland, Insights encouraged, supported, and funded a major global study at Indeed to show the value of their program, and it yielded outstanding results.

Social Impact

This award recognizes an outstanding person, project, or initiative that is making a social impact in the world.

Martin Burt, Ph.D., Fundaciรณn Paraguaya, Poverty Stoplight Program

We are particularly pleased to present this award to Martin Burt, author of the bestselling book, Who Owns Poverty?, for creating the Poverty Stoplight Program. This program is successful because it is designed to be successful. It’s a well-thought-out process with very specific objectives, processes, and steps. It clearly shows how families can move out of poverty with the help of this program and the support of governments, employers, and other organizations. We applaud the efforts of the Fundaciรณn Paraguaya to implement and evaluate Martin Burt’s program for driving social change and having an impact.

Best ROI Certification Host

This new award is given to the best certification host during the year. Most in-person ROI Certification sessions are hosted by an organization with on-site facilities. These groups are levering this opportunity to build capability among their team while also inviting individuals from outside organizations to learn ROI skills in their space. The host makes participants feel welcome, creates a conducive learning environment, and provides an excellent experience throughout the week.

This year we had two outstanding ROI Certification hosts that made it difficult for us to decide on just one winner. They both raised the bar on how to create an in-person learning environment conducive to ROI Certification. We consider them both as winners and gave the award to both hosts.

Kelli Zohar-Davis, Assistant Director of Talent Development & Innovation, New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center

Kelli did an amazing job following the New Orleans tradition of providing superior hospitality to welcome participants at an in-person program with great food, refreshments, warm welcomes, and creating an environment very conducive to learning.

ย

Elizabeth Bishop, Organizational Development Consultant, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis

Elizabeth did an amazing job of keeping people focused on the topics, providing excellent support in an enjoyable and welcoming atmosphere with fantastic food and refreshments.
