Dr. Vinayshil Gautam is an internationally acclaimed scholar, institution builder, and thought leader in management. Currently President Emeritus of the Indian Society for Training and Development (ISTD), he also serves on the Board of the International Federation of Training and Development Organisations (IFTDO) and chairs its Research and Publications Committee.

Under his leadership, IFTDO has institutionalized a respected and regular newsletter and completed a major research project, with two more underway. His efforts have fostered a culture of applied research within IFTDO, enhancing its global credibility and impact. Dr. Gautam has also played a pivotal role in organizing several IFTDO Annual Conferences, including leading strategic planning for the 49th conference and contributing to events from Cairo to Jakarta. His committee has supported the publication of two significant books during his tenure.

Beyond IFTDO, Dr. Gautam has made foundational contributions to Indian management education. He was the Founder Director of IIM Kozhikode, led the consulting team at IIM Shillong, and was the first Head of the statutory Department of Management at IIT Delhi—making him the first to hold such a position across the IIT system.

His advisory roles include senior positions with KPMG, Protiviti India, TRIFED, and numerous Indian government departments such as the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the Department of Personnel. He has shaped policies, strategies, and recruitment frameworks for public and private organizations alike.

A respected academic across five continents, he has held visiting appointments or lectured at the University of Sussex, Brunel, Dominican University, Cambridge, London, Toronto, York, Duke, and more. He currently chairs the D K International Foundation.

Dr. Gautam also chaired the Task Force for IFTDO’s Golden Jubilee Celebrations. A recipient of numerous lifetime achievement awards, his interdisciplinary contributions span management, sociology, anthropology, and energy studies. His work in organizational and human resource development is widely cited and respected in India and internationally.
