2017 – 2018 ROI Institute Awards Program Winners Announced

The ROI Institute Awards Selection Committee is excited to announce the recipients of the 2017 – 2018 ROI Institute Awards. The ROI Institute Awards Program strives to recognize excellent practices in the application of the ROI Methodology® and honor the individuals and organizations for outstanding work in measurement, evaluation, and analytics.

“The submissions we received were very impressive,” said Dr. Patti P. Phillips, president and CEO of ROI Institute. “It is incredibly rewarding for us to see the detailed, hard work that professionals all over the world are putting into implementing the ROI Methodology.”

For this award period, we received a record number of submissions in all categories. Because of the unusual large numbers and the impressive quality of the submissions, our task of trying to select just one winner in each category became very difficult. This led us to modify the selection process slightly to provide for multiple winners in a category, but only if the submissions and applicants met certain top scores in our judging criteria. Consequently, there are multiple awards presented in four categories: Best ROI Impact Study, Most Innovative Approach to ROI, Best Published Case Study, and Best Practice Implementation.

“We’re so pleased to see such impressive international work. More than half of the winners reside in countries outside of the US with an impressive representation from the Middle East,” added Dr. Patti P. Phillips.

“This is consistent with our work as ROI implementation spans 70 countries, and more than half of our work is in other countries as well,” said Dr. Jack J. Phillips, chairman ROI Institute.

Best ROI Impact Study – Amr Ismail Mossalam, Mohamed Taher Arafa, and Yasser Mahmoud El Sheikh (Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai); Yekta Ozozer, Cihan Babayigit, Selda Gunay, and Digdem Dokmeci (Akbank Academy and Surekli Gelisim Consulting & Trainng Ltd/ROI Institute Turkey); and Ishaq M. Hundreds of studies are conducted each year. This award recognizes the one study that best describes current use and application of the ROI Methodology. This award is not necessarily for the study that shows the highest ROI – the winning entry could be a negative ROI.

Best Research – Kevin Otsuka (SAP)

This award recognizes individuals who have conducted important research about the use of ROI and the effectiveness of the ROI Methodology.

Best Published Case Study – Bette Kidane (SCL Health); Elizabeth Woodard Jennifer Seay, Chase Brasher, Timothy Premo, Michael Harris, and Grant Johnson (Norfolk Public Library and Old Dominion University)

Case studies are important for teaching lessons learned and best practices about the success (or lack of success) with a particular project. This award recognizes the case study that best educates and supports professionals who are implementing the ROI Methodology.

Best Practice Implementation – Ginger Cross, Ph.D., CH (BG) Ray Bailey, Retired (General Board of Higher Education and Ministry, The United Methodist Church); Mustafa Naisah, Mumtaz Hussain, and Abdullah Al Naqbi (Emirates Integrated Telecommunication Company – du); and Michael Adebiyi (@P2 Consulting)

This award recognizes individuals or organizations for the results achieved through successful, enterprise-wide implementation of the ROI Methodology. Implementation strategies must describe successful practices used across all phases of implementation, including evaluation planning, data collection, data analysis, and communicating results.

Most Innovative Approach to ROI – Evelyn Kwan Green. Ph.D. (Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management, University of South Alabama); Patrick Odnokon and Rostyk Hursky (Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation – SHRF); Mark Cheever (SAP); and Rev. Douglas Stewart (Memorial Regional Health System)

This award is given to the individual or organization that shows the most creativity in the implementation of the ROI Methodology. Innovation can occur in data collection, analysis, or reporting, or it can involve creativity in getting others involved, using data, and building capability.

Best Published ROI Article – Mariham Magdy (Impresub International)

One of the most effective ways to educate others and support the ROI Methodology is to write an article for publication. This award recognizes the article that best informs others about how to use and apply the ROI process.

Best International Implementation – Rodrigo Lara (Instituto ROI)

This award recognizes individuals who work across country borders to promote the implementation of ROI. This can include consulting work, conference presentations, workshops, or all three areas.

ROI Practitioner of the Year – Reem Alsuwaidi (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority)

This award recognizes the individual whose advocacy of the ROI Methodology has broadly influenced audiences and organizations on both an internal and external level. This individual is one who has demonstrated, through professional practice, sustained integrity to the process – often in the face of organizational barriers – the leadership ability to create, support, and champion opportunities for creating a results-based culture.

“It was difficult to choose just one recipient in each category,” said Dr. Jack Phillips, chairman of ROI Institute. “We are extremely pleased to have received so many impressive submissions and nominations.”

The awards will be presented at the annual Center for Talent Reporting (CTR) conference in Dallas, TX on Wednesday, February 20th. ROI Institute is a founding group and sponsor of CTR and support their efforts to advance credible reporting of talent development.
